Chrome and Microsoft Edge have the best support for the Web Speech API this tool relies on. Safari and Firefox have limited or no support at the time of writing — if your browser doesn't support it, the tool tells you clearly and you can still type or paste text directly into the box.

Is my voice recording sent to a server?

This tool itself has no backend and stores nothing — the speech recognition happens through your browser's own built-in engine, the same one used for any other voice typing feature on your device. No audio or text is sent to this site.

Does it add punctuation automatically?

Not automatically from natural speech pauses, but you can say punctuation out loud — "comma," "period," "question mark," "new line," "new paragraph" — and the tool converts those spoken words into the actual punctuation mark.

Can I edit the text while dictating?

Yes, the text box is a normal editable field at all times — you can click into it and fix a word while dictation is still running, or pause it first if you'd rather not risk your voice being picked up mid-edit.

Why did it stop listening after a period of silence?

Some browsers automatically end a recognition session after enough silence — this tool automatically restarts listening behind the scenes when that happens, as long as you haven't clicked "Stop Dictation" yourself.
