Why a generic unit converter gets recipes wrong
A cup of flour weighs about 120 grams. A cup of honey weighs about 340 grams. A cup of water weighs about 237 grams. Those are three completely different weights for the exact same volume, because volume-to-weight conversion depends entirely on how dense the ingredient is — and a generic converter that just applies a flat '1 cup = X grams' rule to everything will be wrong for almost anything except water. This tool uses real, ingredient-specific density figures for over 20 common baking and cooking staples, so switching between cups and grams actually gives you the right number for what you're measuring.

Common questions
Why do different ingredients have different gram-per-cup weights?
Because density varies by how tightly the ingredient packs and how much air or liquid it contains. Flour is light and full of air pockets; honey is a dense, viscous liquid; butter sits in between. A cup measures volume, not weight, so the weight always depends on what's filling that cup.
Is 'packed' vs 'unpacked' brown sugar different?
Yes — this tool's brown sugar figure assumes the common 'packed' measurement most recipes call for. If a recipe specifies loosely spooned brown sugar, actual weight will run a bit lower than shown here.
How accurate are these density figures?
They're solid reference averages used widely in baking, but any individual ingredient can vary a little by brand, moisture content, and how it's measured (scooped vs. spooned and leveled). For baking where precision really matters, weighing ingredients on a kitchen scale is always more accurate than a volume measurement, however careful.
Can I add an ingredient that's not in the list?
